Warning day / 279 sirens sound on 12 September 2024 at 11:00 a.m. for a district-wide function test

In order to sensitise the population, the conference of the interior ministers of the federal states has decided to hold a nationwide warning day every second Thursday in September. This year, the Börde district is also taking part in the nationwide warning day for the fourth time. Regular functional tests are important in order to make the population aware of the available warning devices, but also to check their organisational and technical functionality. Warning apps and digital systems only work if people use them. For example, sirens are the most important means of warning the population at night. To make people aware, check their mobile phones, switch on the radio or television, there is a danger situation. Inform yourself and your neighbours.

This year, the Cell-Broadcast mobile phone service will once again be used to warn and inform the public. Cell-Broadcast can send warning messages to all mobile devices (smartphones and conventional mobile phones) that are set up and ready to receive them and are located in a specific section of the mobile network. This means that all mobile phones that are logged into the mobile phone mast receive an automatic message.

All 279 sirens in the Börde district will sound on 12 September 2024 at 11:00 (all-clear at 11:45) to raise public awareness and to check the organisational and technical functionality of the warning systems. The Modular Warning System (MoWaS) will also be supplied with a test message from the national warning centre. This service in turn supplies various warning applications for mobile phones, for example the warning app NINA.

The signal on 12 September at 11:00 a.m.: a one-minute rising and falling wailing tone for the warning, "general danger" in times of peace, the so-called disaster alarm or the air alarm in the event of defence.

The sirens are owned by the towns and municipalities and are maintained and serviced by them. The digital siren control receivers are provided by the district of Börde. They are controlled by the integrated control centre of the Börde district, for example for emergency alerts based on an alarm and call-out order of the fire brigade, which is issued by the town or municipality itself.

The Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) is also conducting a survey on the warning day this year with the aim of giving citizens the opportunity to provide feedback, pooling experiences and analysing the technical functioning and effect of the warning and the warning equipment. By warning means, we mean the "end devices" or applications available to people, such as radio and television, websites, social media, digital city information boards, warning apps, loudspeaker vans or sirens.

Participation in the survey will be open for 7 days from 11:00 a.m. on the warning day 12 September 2024 on the website www.warntag-umfrage.dewill be possible.

What should I do?

You do not need to do anything other than check your availability for possible warnings. You may not yet be using a warning app. This can be downloaded to your mobile phone via the relevant app stores. We recommend the free app NINApublished by the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance.
