CITY CYCLING in the Börde district is becoming increasingly popular

CITY CYCLING is becoming increasingly popular: in 2024, more than 1,390 people pedalled in the Börde district, which is 780 more cyclists than in the previous year. Together, the participants were able to save around 47,166 kilograms of carbon dioxide.

On your bikes, get set, go. For three weeks, citizens were able to record the kilometres they had cycled or compete against each other in teams in the CITY CYCLING competition. The annual international cycling competition is organised by the Climate Alliance. The results from the Börde district are impressive and show how much enthusiasm there is for cycling and collecting kilometres together for climate protection. With 284,135 kilometres cycled, the district of Börde is in fourth place out of 31 participating municipalities in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, behind the state capital Magdeburg, the city of Halle (Saale) and the city of Dessau-Roßlau.

The participating municipalities in the Börde district also include the municipality of Barleben, the town of Haldensleben, the municipality of Hohe Börde and the municipality of Niedere Börde, as well as the town of Oebisfelde-Weferlingen, all of which have been actively involved in climate protection. In 141 teams, numerous companies, schools, KITAS and colleagues from the municipalities jointly recorded the kilometres they travelled, whether on their way to work or in their free time. In doing so, they are not only making an important contribution to climate protection, but also promoting cycle paths and ensuring a better quality of life. Cycling is healthy, sustainable and therefore a modern form of mobility.
