Replacement new building for Freiherr-von-Stein-Gymnasium Weferlingen completed and ceremonially handed over

In less than three years of construction, an ultra-modern building complex was created, which is technically state-of-the-art and offers pupils and teachers a variety of uses. The modern and barrier-free new building is to replace the system buildings that have existed since the 1990s.

On 2870 m² net floor space over three floors, 18 general classrooms and 7 specialised classrooms for biology, chemistry, physics, music, art and computer lessons were created. Additional function rooms and a lounge area round off the facilities. The technical equipment of the new replacement building also meets today's requirements for energy-efficient construction and modern learning: air-water heat pump, photovoltaic system, underfloor heating, LED lighting, full-surface networking and digital boards were installed.

District Administrator Martin Stichnoth, together with Headmaster Thomas Grießbach, numerous well-wishers and 585 pupils, was delighted about the great opportunity to start the new school year in the ultra-modern premises. 

The ceremonial handover of the building was accompanied by a colourful programme performed by pupils and teachers of the Freiherr-von-Stein-Gymnasium. After the official handover by the District Administrator, interested citizens, residents and parents also had the opportunity to visit the new building. 

The building project was financed by the federal government's programme to improve the school infrastructure of financially weak communities. The district of Börde, as the responsible body for the secondary schools, received a grant of 5.7 million euros. Another 2.3 million euros were financed from the Börde district's own funds. Thus, the new replacement building for the Freiherr-von-Stein-Gymnasium was below the calculated cost framework of over 8.2 million euros.
