"I received the message from CEO Pat Gelsinger on 16 September 2024 to postpone the planned construction of the chip factory by two years. I have also been following the reports on INTEL's current situation closely over the past few weeks. From an economic perspective, I can of course understand INTEL's decision. What I find positive is that we are talking about a postponement, not a cancellation.
But it makes me wonder how the postponement is being assessed. A few weeks ago, I read in the Volksstimme that the German government had not yet submitted the funding application. And when I read today that just a few hours after INTEL's announcement, our federal ministers are discussing the use of the unused funding on Twitter follower X, I naturally ask myself what signal are we sending to the economy?
The district of Börde remains committed to the development of the HighTech Park and coordination in the working groups is continuing. But of course we will now sit down with the state of Saxony-Anhalt, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and HighTech Park GmbH and see what adjustments need to be made."
