In the district of Börde, a total of 268 candidates are running for the 54 seats in the district council elections on 9 June 2024.
Parties, voter groups and individual candidates had until 6 p.m. on 2 April to submit their district election proposals to the district electoral officer. At its public meeting on 3 April, the district election committee decided on the approval of the submitted nominations following an examination and approved all candidates from the 33 nominations.
70 women and 198 men put themselves forward as candidates for the district council elections. This means that more than a quarter of the candidates are women, specifically 26.1%. In the 2019 district council elections, the proportion of women was 25.8%. Although the proportion of men is still significantly higher, there is a slight upward trend for women in local politics.
There are four electoral areas for the district council elections on 9 June 2024. The candidates from the CDU (63), AfD (29), Die Linke (34), SPD (50), FDP (25) and Bündnis 90/ Die Grünen (20) are on the ballot papers in all electoral areas.
The "Unabhängige Wählergemeinschaft Landkreis Börde" (UWG) is running with 30 candidates, the "Kommunale Wählergemeinschaft-Börde" (KWG-Börde) with 10 candidates. "Bürger für Bürger Haldensleben" (B.f.B.) is putting forward one candidate. The voter group "Bürgerbewegung HDL" (Citizens' Movement HDL) is running for the first time in the district council elections with 2 candidates, as is the voter group "Zukunft Börde" (Future Börde) with 3 candidates. Mr Helge Beckurs is standing as an individual candidate.
The oldest person standing in the district council election is a UWG candidate, born in 1945. The youngest person is an SPD candidate, born in 2005. In addition to him, 8 other candidates were born in 2000 or later; the average age of all candidates is 52.
The Börde district council will be newly elected on 9 June 2024. Eligible voters aged 16 and over are called upon to cast their votes at polling stations from 8 am to 6 pm. Postal voting will be possible from mid-May 2024 at the latest. Prior to this, all eligible voters will receive two election notifications this year: one for the local elections and another for the European elections taking place at the same time.
The term of office of the newly elected district council begins in July 2024 with the constituent meeting and ends on 30 June 2029.
