Friedhelm Sienholz and Dietmar Neubauer honoured with Saxony-Anhalt state badge of honour

On behalf of Minister President Dr Reiner Haseloff, District Administrator Martin Stichnoth presented Friedhelm Sienholz and Dietmar Neubauer with the Saxony-Anhalt state awards at the Börde district's volunteer gala on 25 October 2024 and paid tribute to their many years of outstanding commitment.

In 1990, the trestle windmill between Lindhorst and Colbitz was to be sold to Schleswig-Holstein. Mr Friedhelm Sienholz campaigned for its preservation and subsequently restored the mill in order to preserve the last testimony to past techniques and make it accessible to the general public. On 30 October 1990, the "Verein zur Erhaltung der Blockwindmühle Lindhorst e. V." was founded, and Mr Sienenholz has been its uninterrupted chairman ever since. Thanks to his commitment, the mill was restored and a Möllenhus, a bakery and a Möllen barn were built. He often put personal projects on the back burner in order to be active during work assignments. In 2018 and 2020, he collected funding and donations to finance the reconstruction after the bakehouse burned down in 2018 and one wing of the mill was damaged by a storm in 2020. Mr Sienholz was not discouraged by these setbacks. Today, the mill ensemble in Lindhorst is a popular excursion destination.

Mr Dietmar Neubauer has always been committed to the welfare of people who have not been favoured by fate, especially children and young people suffering from cancer at the Pfeiffer Foundations' children's hospice in Magdeburg. He tirelessly collects donations, with a particular focus on the families, relatives and friends of those affected. Even during his professional career, he supported the care of institutionalised children in Loitsche-Heinrichsberg with repairs and donations in kind and endeavoured to make their stay in the facilities more pleasant. For over 30 years, he has generated further donations by selling and auctioning his self-made wooden exhibits at public events and markets. His numerous appeals have already raised more than 50,000 euros.

The Saxony-Anhalt State Badge of Honour has been awarded since 2000 and is considered a sign of recognition for many years of outstanding voluntary work. It is the second highest honour in the state after the Order of Merit of Saxony-Anhalt.
