On the occasion of the 113th International Women's Day, a red bench was ceremoniously inaugurated in front of the Zielitz community and school library as a symbol against violence against women.
The red bench campaign, which originated in Italy, is part of the activities of the Börde district's violence prevention working group. In Germany, a woman dies almost every third day as a result of violence by her partner or ex-partner. The number of reported cases of intimate partner violence is rising. Against this backdrop, the red bench is intended to raise awareness of the issue of domestic violence and remind people of the many women who have been victims of violence.
A QR code on the bench provides information on local support services for those affected.
The red bench was painted red by pupils from the "Werner Seelenbinder" all-day school, who presented a small supporting program during the inauguration ceremony on 8 March in Zielitz. Elbe-Heide Association Mayor Stefan Crackau and Zielitz Mayor Wolfgang Parzanka expressed their thanks for the red bench and the work of all those involved.
