Family midwives are specialised midwives who support parents before and after the birth of their child, especially if the family is in a stressful life situation. The family midwives in the Börde district make an invaluable contribution to ensuring that parents are not left alone. They help to master difficult transitions, be it through practical help in everyday life, emotional support or by providing referrals to other support services.
Mrs Proft is a family midwife employed by the district of Börde. "As a family midwife, I am the family's confidante and provide advice and support. During my training as a family midwife, I learnt how to consciously meet parents in stressful situations, ask the right questions and support families in finding their own ways and solutions. I provide help and tips on everyday issues and support in the event of adjustment and regulation disorders in babies. As a guide, I can point families in the right direction, help them to structure their everyday lives, rethink their life situation and much more!" says Mrs Proft.
Nine family midwives are currently working throughout the Börde district. They carry out home visits and support parents in coping with their new challenges in familiar surroundings. The counselling service is financed by grants from the Federal Foundation's Early Help Fund and from the district's own local funds and is free of charge for families living in the Börde district.
