Inauguration of a red bench for Flechtingen

Symbol against violence against women and girls now also in Flechtingen

A strong signal against violence against women and girls: The AG Gewaltprävention Börde and the municipality of Flechtingen, with the creative support of the Landladies Flechtinger Höhenzug, set up the fifth "Red Bench" in the district of Börde on 29 March as part of the "Spring Awakening" campaign day. District Administrator Martin Stichnoth, Mayor Mirko Buttgereit and Equal Opportunities Officer Katja Klommhaus inaugurated the Red Bench on Lindenplatz.

La Panchina Rossa" initiative

The climatic health resort of Flechtingen is now also taking part in the global "La Panchina Rossa" initiative, which began in Italy in 2014. The "Red Bench" is intended to serve as a symbol against violence against women and girls and to sensitise citizens. A small plaque, donated by the AG Gewaltprävention Börde, points out the contact details of important help and advice centres for people affected by violence.

Alarming figures and increasing cases of domestic violence

Statistically speaking, a woman is murdered by her partner or ex-partner almost every day in Germany. Every three minutes, a woman or girl in Germany experiences domestic violence and every day more than 140 women and girls are victims of sexual violence These figures emphasise the urgency of drawing attention to the issue. The "Red Bank" is intended to remind people of this and raise awareness.
