The castle barn at Hundisburg Castle was decked out in red and white last weekend - all in the spirit of the German Red Cross, all in the spirit of volunteering. The district organisation has a total of 600 volunteers who work tirelessly. Of these, 350 are particularly active and committed volunteers.
For this reason, District Administrator Martin Stichnoth also accompanied the volunteer ceremony with a word of welcome: "As a district, we are infinitely grateful for the tireless commitment of the many volunteers in the DRK. The ceremony was an impressive sign of how much the voluntary work strengthens our district."
In the Börde DRK district organisation, volunteers are involved in many different communities and areas:
- in disaster control in the specialised services of first aid, care and water rescue for the district of Börde,
- in the Walbeck, Haldensleben and Oschersleben rescue teams
- in the Haldensleben and Oschersleben water rescue centres
- in the Youth Red Cross and school ambulance service with several groups and schools in the Börde district
- in social areas such as the four food banks, four clothing banks and two shelters for the homeless
- in the local groups and associations that support senior citizens' groups and accompany and supervise blood donations in the district
- in the area of migration
- People doing a voluntary social year or federal voluntary service
In addition to numerous acknowledgements and honours, there were time awards for years or decades of commitment of up to 65 years. This year, the "Flood Relief 2021" medal from the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Homeland was particularly special and was received by three comrades from the district association.
As a district, we are proud of our volunteers. They are the silent heroes of our everyday lives and deserve the greatest respect and recognition. Thank you for your valuable contribution!
