The current term of office for honorary judges at Magdeburg Administrative Court ends in February 2025. In preparation for the new elections, the district of Börde is drawing up a list of candidates. Interested candidates must have German citizenship, be 25 years of age or older and reside in the district of Börde. They must not have been disqualified from holding public office by a court. Furthermore, they must not have been convicted to a prison sentence of more than six months.
Members of the Bundestag, the European Parliament, the legislative bodies of a state, the federal government or a state government, judges, civil servants and employees in the public sector, unless they work in an honorary capacity, professional soldiers and temporary soldiers, lawyers, notaries and persons who deal with other people's legal affairs on a professional basis cannot be appointed as honorary judges.
Honorary judges should contribute their life experience, their values and their legal awareness to the court proceedings. Legal knowledge is not required. What is needed are social and human skills. Common sense, professional experience, knowledge of human nature and a sense of responsibility, the ability to express one's own opinion but also to recognise the opinions of others and, above all, impartiality are qualities that a volunteer judge should possess. Due to the strenuous nature of the work involved, applicants should also be physically fit.
Interested citizens of the district who fulfil the listed requirements can apply by 28 October 2024 in person or in writing to the Börde district.
