Mr. Weitze is one of 7 employees of the workshops for disabled people of the Lebenshilfe Ostfalen and the Matthias Claudius Haus Oschersleben, who came to the administration for one day as part of the action day shift change to get an insight into different occupational fields in the Börde district. The employees had the opportunity to get to know the various areas of responsibility and work processes in general administration, information technology and digitization, building management and fire, disaster control and rescue services, as well as in motor vehicle sign embossing.
At the same time, the day of action enabled seven employees from our administration to meet people in the workshops. They gained insights into the variety of products and services offered by the workshops of Lebenshilfe Ostfalen and Matthias Claudius Haus Oschersleben and were able to participate in the diverse work processes themselves as part of an inclusive team. Whether packing various products or folding laundry, the colleagues were warmly welcomed everywhere and immediately integrated into the processes.
Through the unifying theme of work, the action day creates space for new perspectives for both sides, an enriching experience for all involved.
Workshops for people with disabilities play an important role in occupational participation in Germany. They offer people with disabilities who, due to their nature or severity, cannot work in the general labor market the opportunity to participate in working life through workshop services. Unfortunately, there are still many prejudices and clichés about workshops and the people with disabilities who work there.
