Small symposium on the occasion of Gabriele Reuter's 165th birthday and 15 years of FrauenOrte Haldensleben on 24 September 2024 at the Haldensleben Museum

Gabriele Reuter was a well-known, widely read and one of the most successful German writers of her time. Thomas Mann wrote an essay about her in 1904, describing her as "...perhaps ... the most sovereign woman living in Germany today; ..." She lived in Neuhaldensleben from 1872/73 to 1879 because she was related to the von Nathusius family in Althaldensleben. It was here that her writing began, born out of necessity.

The small symposium at the Haldensleben Museum looks at Reuter's biography and its significance for our region, and also celebrates her 165th birthday and the 15th anniversary of the FrauenOrtes Haldensleben. At the same time, the history of childcare in Haldensleben will be presented and the importance of childcare for the personal development of women in addition to their role as mothers will be explored.

You are cordially invited to take part in the programme! Registration is not required! Claudia Woloszyn will bring the day to a close with her songs in the museum courtyard with snacks and drinks, sometimes sad, sometimes cheerful - but above all, sensitively and precisely observed.
