Residence permit
Service description
In Germany, politically persecuted persons are entitled to recognition as persons entitled to asylum (Basic Law Art. 16a). Anyone wishing to make use of this right must undergo a recognition procedure. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) is responsible for carrying out the procedure. The certificate which is issued to the respective persons after the successful application for asylum (start of the recognition procedure) is regarded as a residence permit. The temporary residence permit, which is not to be understood as a residence title, grants the right to stay in Germany during the asylum procedure until the final decision.
