Greeting from the district administrator
Dear residents, visitors and guests,
I wish you a pleasant "virtual" and interesting stay in our district! We have compiled a lot of offers and information for you on the internet platform. No matter if you live in our county or if you come to visit - this site offers you access to information about the Landkreis Börde - besides current numbers, data and facts you can also inform yourself, for example, about the work of the administration and the county council, about things worth seeing and experiencing as well as about current events.
Livable and lovable are attributes that fit well with Landkreis Börde. It is precisely against this background that I am pleased that you are interested in our region.
"Modern - positioned for the future - on the best soil". This is the motto we have set for Landkreis Börde as part of a district development concept.
The 2,366-square-kilometer district is named after the very fertile Magdeburger Börde, which lies between Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide and the Harz foothills. The black soil lying here on loess reaches very high soil scores, in some cases as high as 100. The administrative district Börde, bordering on Lower Saxony in the west and on the Elbe River in the east, is the product of the reorganization of the administrative districts in Saxony-Anhalt, which became effective on July 1, 2007, when the former administrative districts Bördekreis and Ohrekreis merged.
The district administration with its administrative offices in Haldensleben and Oschersleben (Bode) is the administrative center for about 171,000 inhabitants. In addition to the district capital Haldensleben, the municipal level is administered by the unitary municipalities Barleben, Hohe-Börde, Niedere Börde, Stadt Oebisfelde-Weferlingen, Stadt Oschersleben (Bode), Sülzetal, Stadt Wanzleben Börde and Stadt Wolmirstedt. In addition, the Elbe-Heide, Flechtingen, Westliche Börde and Obere Aller municipalities have a total of 26 member municipalities, of which Gröningen and Kroppenstedt have municipal law.
Our district offers visitors a wide range of scenic beauty, leisure and recreational opportunities, churches and monasteries worth seeing, castles and palaces, museums, historical monuments and much more. In the north lies the nature park Drömling, a unique meadow and swamp landscape in Germany, where rare animal species have their habitat.
The middle area is characterized by a hilly landscape consisting of several mountain ranges. These include the Weferlinger Triassic plateau, the Flechtinger as well as the Erxleben-Hörsinger range of hills, the western Börde hill country and a range of hills including the Harbker and Marienborner forests, the Sommerschenburger plateau, Pröbstling as well as Hohes and Saures Holz. In the northeast of the district, the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide extends over an area of about 850 square kilometers and includes the largest closed stand of linden forests in Europe.
I think that our homepage gives some suggestions to deal with the Landkreis Börde in more detail. An interesting region invites you to stay. Should you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Uwe Baumgart directly as press spokesman, but also the staff of the Office of Economic Affairs.
